Save Big on MICE Events in Bhutan with SDF Waiver Scheme

If you're seeking a unique and unforgettable setting for your next corporate event, look no further than Bhutan. Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, this enchanting kingdom offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, rich culture, and modern facilities, making it an ideal choice for Meetings, Incentive trips, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE).

Why Choose Bhutan for Your MICE Events?

Bhutan stands out as a MICE destination for several compelling reasons:

  • Sustainable Tourism: Bhutan is renowned for its commitment to sustainable practices. Hosting your MICE events here reflects your organisation’s values in promoting eco-friendly initiatives.

  • Safety and Security: With low crime rates and a strong emphasis on visitor safety, Bhutan ensures a secure environment for all attendees.

  • Tranquil Environment: The peaceful atmosphere of Bhutan enhances focus and creativity, making it an ideal setting for brainstorming sessions, workshops, and team-building activities.

  • Exclusive Experiences: From guided treks to ancient monasteries and authentic cultural encounters, Bhutan offers unique activities that can enrich your programme and engage participants beyond the conference room.

  • Unique Cultural Experience: Immerse your attendees in Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage, including traditional Bhutanese festivals, architecture, and local cuisine, fostering deeper connections and memorable experiences.

  • Warm Hospitality: Bhutanese culture is rooted in warmth and hospitality, ensuring your guests feel welcomed and valued throughout their stay.

Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) Waiver for MICE Events

To support the growth of the MICE sector, Bhutan's Department of Tourism has introduced an initiative allowing organisers of MICE events to apply for a waiver of the daily Sustainable Development Fee (SDF). Key criteria include:

  • Minimum Group Size: Events must have at least fifteen participants, excluding organisers, speakers, or hosts.

  • Duration: Participants may receive an SDF waiver for up to five nights per event, including arrival and departure days.

  • Certified Organisers: Events must be organised by a Department of Tourism-certified Bhutanese tour operator or hotel.

  • Approval and Reporting: Events require approval from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment. Organisers must submit a summary of the event, including outcomes and photographs, to the Department of Tourism within one month following the event.

  • Year-Round Availability: Eligible events can be scheduled throughout the year without blackout dates.

Visa and Immigration Information

All international travellers, except citizens of India, Bangladesh, and Maldives, require a visa to enter Bhutan. The visa application process involves:

  • Application: Apply online through Bhutan Immigration Services Portal or through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator.

  • Documentation: Submit a scanned passport copy (valid for at least six months), a recent passport-size photo, and travel insurance details (recommended).

  • Visa Fee: A non-refundable fee of USD 40 is applicable.

  • SDF Rates: The current SDF is USD 100 per adult per night. Children aged 6 to 12 years pay USD 50 per night, while children under 6 years are exempt.

For regional tourists from India, Bangladesh, and Maldives, an entry permit is required instead of a visa. Specific SDF rates apply to these visitors.
